Useful first: Turn a sketch into a solid
Chamfer cuts a flat bevel between adjoining faces. On an edited Extrude body, it acts on one continuous straight convex edge and uses equal distances along the two faces. Perpendicular faces produce a 45-degree bevel.
Try it in Cadivari
Open a copy of the block
Use a separate copy of the 160 × 96 × 15 mm block from the Push/Pull lesson, including its top-face edit. Start before adding Fillets, Shell or other finishing features.
Select one outer edge
Hide the source sketch if it covers the solid. Click Chamfer in the 3D rail, then select one continuous straight top edge where two flat outer faces meet.
Set a small distance
Enter Distance 2 mm. Orbit the preview to check the new flat face. If the bevel is invalid, reduce the distance or use Reselect to choose another supported edge.
Apply and edit the feature
Click Apply Chamfer or press Enter. Select the saved Chamfer in the history and change Distance to 3 mm in the inspector. Undo that edit to restore 2 mm.
A small exercise
Bevel one top edge of the edited block by 2 mm. Compare its flat face with the curved surface shown in the Fillet lesson.
What you should see
One flat bevel replaces the sharp edge. Its two face setbacks are each 2 mm, and the Chamfer remains a separate editable history feature.
Things to look out for
- Distance measures along the adjoining faces, not across the diagonal bevel surface.
- Multi-edge selection and Distance + angle belong to the clean Extrude workflow. This edited-body exercise uses one edge and equal distance.
