3D Fillet

Round solid edges with an editable radius, including supported edges on previously edited bodies.

Recommended test

  1. Create a rectangular Extrude, then use Push/Pull on its top face to change its height.
  2. Choose Fillet and click one highlighted straight outer edge.
  3. Enter a small Radius, such as 2 mm, then choose Apply Fillet.
  4. Select the stored Fillet and change its Radius. Confirm the rounded edge rebuilds.
  5. Add a sketch pocket on a remaining flat face, away from the rounded edge.
  6. Save and reopen. Confirm both the Fillet and later Cut remain in the body history.

01 · CURRENT SOLID

Round an edge after other edits

On a supported Extrude-based body with face edits or additional features, choose Fillet and select one continuous straight convex edge between two planar faces. Type the Radius, inspect the preview and choose Apply Fillet or press Enter. Use Reselect to choose another edge, or Escape to cancel the preview.

This workflow uses the current solid, so a Fillet can follow direct face edits, sketch Join/Cut, Chamfer or a compatible Shell. Each feature selects one continuous edge. Subsequent sketches and Push/Pull operations remain available on the remaining supported planar faces.

The radius defines a circular cross-section; the resulting curved surface is represented by a sampled mesh. Individual triangles on that curve are not offered as separate planar faces for direct editing.

02 · CLEAN EXTRUDE

Choose Edge or Tangent or Loop or All

A clean prismatic Extrude retains its existing multi-edge controls. Edge toggles one semantic edge. Tangent follows smooth neighboring sampled rim segments until a sharp corner. Loop selects a complete compatible rim or vertical corner loop. All selects every compatible outer edge on the body. Click a selected edge again, or use its remove button, to remove that reference. These scopes belong to the clean Extrude workflow.

03 · RADIUS

Preview an exact size

Type a positive millimetre radius. On a clean Extrude, the bounded slider and selected-edge limit are also available. On an edited body, the task card validates the requested radius against the adjoining faces and other walls before enabling Apply.

Change the radius later

Select a Fillet made on an edited body and change Radius directly in the inspector. Cadivari validates the rebuilt feature and subsequent operations before accepting it. A clean Extrude Fillet retains Edit Fillet for its original scope, edge set and radius.

Save/open preserves the references and radius. Upstream sketch or feature changes rebuild the result while the intended edge remains identifiable. Remove later dependent features and attached face references before deleting a source feature; deleting a final Fillet restores the preceding solid and retains the original sketch.

If a clean-body feature is followed by newer face edits or sketch extrusions, its numeric dimensions remain editable in the inspector. To change its original edge selection, remove those later solid edits first; its original selection task is available again on that earlier body.

PREVIEW VALIDATION

Keep enough material around the round

A radius is rejected if it consumes an adjoining face, causes a collapsed or crossing result, or removes material from an unrelated wall or pocket. For example, a large outer-corner Fillet on a thin Shell is blocked if it would break into the cavity. Reduce the radius or choose a different edge. The task card explains the failed preview and disables Apply; the clean Extrude controls also highlight affected edges red.

CURRENT SCOPE

Supported rounding

  • Edited Extrude-based bodies: one continuous straight convex edge between planar faces per Fillet feature
  • Clean prismatic Extrudes: compatible outer rim and exterior rail selections, including the existing partial multi-edge scopes
  • Compatible Chamfer, Shell, Fillet and extrusion sequences are supported when each intermediate solid is valid
  • General curved-edge Fillets, concave rails, ambiguous references and arbitrary inner/circular combinations remain unsupported
  • Use Shell before rounding when the Shell would otherwise need to offset a curved surface
