Recommended test
- Push/Pull a rectangle into a 20 mm New Body, then pull its top face outward by another 5 mm.
- Choose Shell and click the top planar face.
- Enter 2 mm Thickness, inspect the cavity and choose Apply Shell.
- Select the stored Shell and change its Thickness to 3 mm.
- Create a sketch on an outer side and use Cut to make an opening through that wall.
- Save and reopen. Confirm the Shell and later Cut remain editable history features.
01 · CURRENT SOLID
Hollow an edited convex body
On an Extrude-based body with face edits or additional features, Shell works on a single convex solid made entirely of identifiable planar faces. Choose Shell, click one face to remove, enter Thickness, then choose Apply Shell or press Enter. The opening can be a supported top, bottom or side face. Reselect returns to face selection; Escape cancels the preview.
The other face planes are offset inward by the requested thickness to form one cavity. A resized box or a convex box with a Chamfer can be shelled this way. The body must still be convex and planar when Shell is applied: existing pockets, through-holes, rounded surfaces or a previous cavity do not qualify for this workflow.
A useful order is Extrude → face edits → Chamfer, if needed → Shell → pockets, holes and compatible Fillets. Later sketch extrusions and supported planar Push/Pull edits remain available. A later direct wall edit changes the selected wall; it does not change the stored Shell thickness or promise to keep every wall uniform.
02 · CLEAN EXTRUDE
Open a terminal cap
A clean Extrude retains the original profile-based Shell workflow. Choose Shell, click a highlighted terminal planar cap and enter the wall thickness. The selected cap becomes the opening and the opposite end becomes the floor. This specialized workflow can retain material around supported existing through-holes in the source profile.
03 · UNIFORM OFFSET
Leave room for one cavity
Thickness is measured inward from the faces before Shell. It must leave one usable connected cavity and sufficient material around the opening. Values that collapse, reverse or split the cavity are rejected. Start with a small thickness and inspect the walls and floor from several views before applying it.
ASSOCIATIVE HISTORY
Edit without losing the source solid
For a Shell made on an edited body, select its history item and change Thickness directly in the inspector. Cadivari validates the rebuilt Shell and its later operations before accepting the edit. Clean Extrude and supported Revolve Shells retain Edit opening and thickness to reopen their original task card.
Save/open retains the source reference and thickness. Upstream dimensions rebuild the Shell while its opening remains identifiable and the body remains within the supported scope. Remove later dependent features and face-attached references before deleting their source. Deleting a final Shell restores the preceding solid while keeping its sketch.
If a clean-body feature is followed by newer face edits or sketch extrusions, its numeric dimensions remain editable in the inspector. To change its original opening face, remove those later solid edits first; its original selection task is available again on that earlier body.
ROTATIONAL BODY
Shell a supported full Revolve
The existing full-360-degree New Body Revolve workflow remains available. It requires a flat axial terminal cap, neighboring profile walls parallel to the rotation axis and a source profile without nested holes. Cadivari offsets the meridional section and rebuilds the rim, inner walls and floor. This is a separate supported case from the convex planar workflow above.

- Edited Extrude-based bodies: one connected convex planar solid with one identifiable opening face, including a side face
- Clean Extrudes: the existing terminal-cap workflow, including supported profile holes
- Full Revolves: the guarded axial terminal-cap workflow described above
- Current-solid Shell does not offset general concave, pocketed or curved boundaries; create it before pockets and rounded edges
- Multiple removed faces, partial-Revolve Shells and Loft Shells remain unsupported
- Compatible later Cuts, Joins, face edits and finishing features are supported; each requested result must remain a valid solid
