Understand axes and work zero

Connect the drawing coordinates to the stock and the machine.

Useful first: Draw your first rectangle

Job zero tells CAM where the stock coordinate system starts. Cadivari offers nine XY anchors and uses the stock top for Z0. Machine homing is a separate operation in the machine controller.

Try it in Cadivari

  1. Open CAM setup

Open the saved rectangle drawing and switch to CAM. Choose Setup in the right sidebar and check the Stock dimensions and thickness.

  2. Choose the anchor

Expand Job zero. Click the lower-left point in the 3 × 3 selector. The gold X0 Y0 marker identifies that stock corner.

  3. Compare another anchor

Choose the upper-right point. The drawing stays in place while the job origin moves. Coordinates to the left and below that origin become negative.

  4. Return to the exercise origin

Choose Lower-left again and save. For a real job, the controller work zero must match the chosen XY anchor and stock-top Z0.

Over to you

A small exercise

Switch between the lower-left and upper-right anchors. Compare the 2D marker and 3D axes, then restore Lower-left.

What you should see

Both views identify the same stock anchor. Changing the origin does not move the drawing within the stock.

Things to look out for

  • Changing Job zero in Cadivari does not physically probe or zero the machine.
  • The stock corner can be outside the drawing because automatic stock fitting includes a margin.
Check your understandingIs work zero the same as the machine home position

No. Work zero locates the job on its stock. Homing establishes a machine reference and is handled separately by the controller.
