Useful first: Draw your first rectangle
Every line is a separate editable segment. Matching endpoints connect segments into a path. Shift constrains the next segment to horizontal, vertical or 45-degree directions while you draw.
Try it in Cadivari
Choose Line
Open a Top-plane sketch. Press L or click Line, then click the first endpoint. Move the pointer to preview a straight segment.
Place a constrained segment
Hold Shift and move horizontally. Click to place the second endpoint. Each click commits one segment and begins the next from that exact point.
Finish or continue the chain
Add another segment if needed. Press Enter or click the green check to finish without placing another endpoint. Esc cancels the current preview but keeps committed segments.
Set exact endpoints
Press V, select one line and use Properties to set X1 to 0, Y1 to 0, X2 to 160 and Y2 to 0 mm. Press Enter or leave each field to commit.
Connect the next line
Press L again. With Snap enabled, approach the first line’s end until the green Endpoint marker appears. Click that point, draw a second segment and press Enter. Select either segment to inspect the connected path.
A small exercise
Make a 160 mm horizontal line and a second line connected to its right endpoint. Select the path, move one free endpoint and undo the edit with Ctrl + Z.
What you should see
Two separately editable segments share an exact endpoint. Properties reports an Open path with two segments, and undo restores the moved endpoint.
Things to look out for
- A small visible gap is still a gap. Use the named green geometry snap to connect endpoints.
- Shift is a placement aid, not a permanent horizontal or angle constraint. Later endpoint edits can change the direction.
Check your understandingDoes pressing Esc remove the lines already placed
No. Esc cancels the active preview. Use Ctrl + Z to undo committed segments one at a time.
