CAM Sidebar Workflow

Use Cadivari's Setup, Operations, and Verify CAM sidebar tabs.

Recommended test

Use at least two contours and one pocket so the grouped operation workflow has meaningful content.

  1. Enter CAM. The sidebar should open on Setup.
  2. Confirm Setup is ordered Stock, Tool, Job zero, then Machine. Stock opens initially while the other sections start collapsed. Their carets should work by mouse or keyboard, Stock containment should be a single unboxed status line, and the Objects list should not consume space here.
  3. Select Operations. Confirm Layer 1 starts collapsed, its caret toggles the object list, and the Objects panel ends directly after the layer or last visible object instead of filling a fixed height. With no operation, only the Add contour and Add pocket buttons should appear—no warning or Return to CAD link.
  4. With stored work, confirm Job sequence & output, Contours, and Pockets appear as compact single-line toggle cards containing only the heading, count, and caret. Each parent card uses a solid category background matching its thick left rail: amber for job output, cyan for contours, and green for pockets. Nested operation cards retain their dark backgrounds and colored rails.
  5. Confirm rectangular panels, cards, buttons, and input fields use square zero-radius corners throughout CAD and CAM. Semantic dots, numbered sequence markers, help markers, and loading spinners should remain circular.
  6. Expand Job sequence, Contours, and Pockets. Each category's child cards must appear immediately beneath its own header, use the matching color-coded left rail without a full enclosing border, and never collect below a different category.
  7. Open two different operation cards. The second should open while the first closes. Selecting its canvas geometry or its row in Job sequence should reopen and reveal the matching card.
  8. Confirm Cutter placement, Entry, Holding tabs, Start point, Clearing strategy, and Wall finishing use compact dashed-leader setting rows. Their active choice should use a quiet accent underline and tint rather than the solid gold Create/Add treatment. Cutter-placement guidance should live in its adjacent question-mark tooltip, valid placement should show no success banner, and changing to an unsafe side should reveal only the relevant warning.
  9. Choose Add contour and select a boundary. Confirm setup appears directly beneath Contours without an extra path-source card. Cancel and verify that no unused item remains.
  10. Select Verify. Confirm the operation summary, Motion preview, and Shapeoko/GRBL G-code tools appear without the editable machining controls.
  11. Open several lightweight information links. Each explanation should expand directly below its link, and clicking it again should close it.
  12. Use the keyboard to Tab to a help control and press Enter or Space. It should toggle with a clear focus outline.
  13. Confirm the simplified Setup panel does not restore the removed clamp, cutter, or local-export notice cards.
  14. Switch repeatedly between all three tabs. Stock values, contour values, manual tabs, start point, and validation state must remain unchanged.
  15. Confirm the sidebar begins directly with three uncluttered text tabs—no duplicate CAM heading, icons, or secondary status lines.
  16. Open G-code inspection and export preflight from Verify. Both existing dialogs should behave exactly as before.
  17. Return to CAD and confirm simple circles and rectangles show only their drawing properties. Multi-segment paths may show a compact Path status diagnostic, but no CAM action.

01 · PREPARE THE JOB

Setup holds shared machine context

Stock dimensions, Safe Z, the selected stock-anchor XY origin, stock-top Z0, Shapeoko/GRBL profile, and cutter diameter belong to the whole job. Keeping them together makes the starting assumptions easy to review before any operation is edited.

02 · DEFINE THE CUT

Operations are grouped without changing machining order

Job sequence & output is the authoritative machining order. Contours and Pockets are editing groups, with the job-order number retained in the sequence card. Each operation has a compact summary card showing its name, geometry/tool detail, enabled state, and readiness; opening one operation closes the previously open editor. Selecting matching canvas geometry or a Job sequence row opens that card.

Binary and three-way operation settings use compact right-aligned segmented rows. A dashed leader connects each label to its control, while the selected value uses restrained accent text, tint, and an underline. The full gold fill remains reserved for Create and Add actions so editable state never resembles a final confirmation. Closed-contour compensation guidance lives in the question-mark tooltip beside Cutter placement. The row stays silent when compensation and stock fit are valid; a message appears there only when the selected side is unsafe.

Add Contour selects a boundary and Add Pocket selects an enclosed area directly on the CAM canvas. Associative geometry references remain internal and are stored only with a confirmed operation. The fixed footer remains available while the operation editor scrolls independently above it.

03 · INSPECT THE RESULT

Verify separates review from editing

Verify keeps machine-independent motion statistics, warnings, G-code inspection, and export preflight together.

This navigation pass does not hide safety or validation messages behind help controls. Blocking errors and machining warnings remain directly in the workflow.

04 · PROGRESSIVE HELP

Explanations appear when requested

Lightweight information links contain instructions for tab placement, start placement, depth conventions, motion preview scope, G-code saving, positive cutting checks, and starter-value guidance. They remain closed by default and use native disclosure behavior, so mouse and keyboard users can open and close the same content. Complete-job automatic checks also collapse to one status line by default; open that row whenever the individual results are needed. The selected job-zero anchor and coordinate convention stay visible in Setup.

  • No values reset when switching sidebar tabs
  • No change to motion, animation, G-code, preflight, or NC export
  • Entering CAM starts on Setup; activating the Contour tool opens Operations
  • Tabs and help disclosures expose visible focus and accessible selected/open state
